ACTIONSA is advocating for the eThekwini Metro to be renamed in honour of the late Zulu monarch, traditional prime minister, IFP founder, and long-serving Parliament member, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
The party has officially proposed this motion, which is set to be discussed at the forthcoming council meeting.
A formal notification has been sent to the eThekwini Municipality, the sole metro in KZN, regarding this proposal.
Zwakele Mncwango, the leader of ActionSA in KZN, highlighted Buthelezi's significant role not only in South African politics but also as a respected figure among the Zulu people.
"His lifelong dedication to combating apartheid, along with his advocacy for peace, reconciliation, and the betterment of his people, are commendable traits that warrant recognition and honour," Mncwango said.
He further explained that renaming the eThekwini Metro after Buthelezi would serve as a lasting tribute to his extraordinary legacy, ensuring his contributions are remembered and celebrated for future generations.

“Who is one leader in KZN who has developed the province more than Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi? Which inkosi has protected traditional leadership and land than Buthelezi?
“Why did President Cyril Ramaphosa afford Buthelezi a category one state funeral, honouring him for the contribution he made to the people of South Africa and KZN?” he said.
Mncwango also emphasised the importance of this gesture in acknowledging and preserving South Africa's diverse cultural heritage.
Despite the cancellation of April's council meeting, where the motion was initially scheduled for discussion, Mncwango remains optimistic.
He suspects the ANC may be attempting to obstruct the motion but asserts that such efforts will not deter ActionSA.
On 11 December 2023, ActionSA met Prince Zuzifa Buthelezi, Prince Mangosuthu's eldest son, who endorsed the initiative to rename the municipality in his father's honour.
Mncwango urged that the debate surrounding the motion should transcend political considerations, posing three critical questions to reflect on Buthelezi's unparalleled contributions to KZN and South Africa at large.
