THE African Transformation Movement (ATM) will get rid of drug dealers when it is in government.

Party president Vuyo Zungula told voters and party volunteers in Harrismith, Free State, that drugs are killing young people in Mzansi.

"One thing that will happen is that they will vote for us on 29 May. The day we are elected to go to the Union Buildings, the first thing we will do is deal with the drug dealers who are killing the future of this country. Under the ATM government, these drug dealers and abonyaope will have no space in our society," Zungula said.

He said his government will work hard to get rid of businessmen who sell fake and rotten food to black communities.

Zungula is on an election campaign trail in KZN that started on Monday, 22 April and will end with a manifesto rally at Westridge Stadium in Durban on Saturday, 27 April.

"We will also revisit the law that says you cannot get a job if you are over 35," he said.

He told the party's female volunteers that if they meet a man and he asks for their number, they must tell the person that he will get it on 29 May.

"Between now and 29 May, we live, we breathe, we eat, and we are ATM," he said.

Meanwhile, the party also extended its condolences to the grieving family of the three-year-old boy who tragically drowned in a latrine in Mdantsane.

ATM spokesman Zama Ntshona said: "The loss of this innocent life is a devastating and unacceptable tragedy that should never have happened. This tragic incident is a call to action for all stakeholders, including government agencies, community leaders and civil society organisations, to come together and redouble our efforts to ensure that such incidents do not happen again."

He said ATM is calling on the Social Development Department to intervene with counselling services for students affected by the trauma and family members struggling to cope with the loss.

Ntshona said: "It's important to provide psychological help to help people cope with the emotional impact of such a devastating event and begin the healing process. ATM reaffirms its unwavering commitment to fight for the restoration of human dignity for all people in our country.

"The time for change is now, and enough is enough. We will continue to advocate for policies and initiatives that prioritise the well-being and safety of everyone, especially the most vulnerable members of our society."
