BAHOLO Ba Kgotso music group has shared that creating sione music is not easy.

The musicians feel that their genre is often overlooked, and they don't get booked for events as much as they'd like.

Adolph Mhlongo, the lead singer from Rustenburg in the North West, told Daily Sun that he hopes sione music will be taken more seriously in Mzansi.

He mentioned that the group has 22 members who are seeking recognition. Adolph recounted that when they first formed the group, they faced rejection.

However, they overcame these challenges by staying united. There were moments when they considered giving up, but they remembered their initial motivation and prayed for guidance. He expressed his desire for sione music to receive more support.

As Sione gospel musicians, their mission is to spread the word of God through their music. The group was established in 2021, with guidance from Alex Rapetswa and a producer who helped them create music that resonates with their supporters.

"Life hasn’t been easy since we joined the music industry. As a gospel choir, we aim to lead by example," Adolph said.

He highlighted the challenge of spreading the word of God in a manner that people can understand and appreciate. Despite the lack of support for their music and shows, they received help from other musicians, which opened new opportunities for them.

The late Dr Kenny Makweng mentored them on how to market themselves.

"Baholo Ba Kgotso recorded their first debut 10-track album titled Ingwe Ya Mabalabala in May 2021. We featured the late gospel legend Dr Kenny Makweng on it," Adolph revealed.

They performed songs like Ingwe Ya Mabalabala and Tsamayang Ha Nnyane, sharing the stage with Dr Winnie Mashaba during the album launch.

In 2021, they won five awards, including Best Song of the Year and Best Acapella Group, at the Bokoni Bophirima and Tswina Music Awards, respectively.

The group released their latest album, O di Secha Ka Moya in January.

Radio presenter Thabang Senyatso, who began his career singing with the choir, expressed his wish for more support for sione musicians. The 31-year-old musician hopes that the people of Mzansi will show love to sione musicians.

"This is what we would like to see not just for us but for other gospel groups as well. It will give us hope that we are also here to heal the nation," Thabang said.
