FUNERAL and memorial service arrangements have been finalised for the late Dr Samuel Motsuenyane, who died on Monday, 29 April, at age 97.

The funeral service will take place at the Akasia Community Hall in Akasia on Thursday, 9 May, at 7am, while a memorial service will be held in Midrand in the afternoon of Tuesday, 7 May.

The family of the late pioneer confirmed the details.

Motsuenyane founded the largest and best-known African business organisation, the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce (Nafcoc) in 1964.

Established in Soweto by black traders, Nafcoc promoted and encouraged the development of black and small businesses in South Africa. Through this establishment, Motsuenyane became one of the spearheads in the formation of the African Bank.

Public Interest SA, who expressed their condolences, regarded Motsuenyane as a beacon of integrity and innovation, championing ethical entrepreneurship and social responsibility.

The Sam Motsuenyane Foundation also paid tribute to its leader.

"As we mourn the loss of this great leader, let us remember Dr Motsuenyane's unwavering commitment to integrity, compassion and inclusivity. His legacy will continue to guide us as we strive to build a more just and equitable society for all," the foundation said.

Meanwhile, the family extended its deepest gratitude to all who expressed their condolences and support.
