THE African National Congress (ANC) under the eThekwini region will approach the Independent Electorate Commission of South Africa (IEC) over vandalism of their campaign billboards in one of the kasis in Durban.

The party believes that the recent vandalism of their billboards in Umlazi, south of Durban, is a sign of undermining the ANC’s campaign.

ANC regional secretary Musa Nciki said they're disturbed by the sharp increase in the constant vandalism and destruction of its campaign posters and billboards in Umlazi.

“There's a coordinated attempt to undermine the ANC campaign through gross vandalism and destruction of election posters and billboards,” he said.

He said that they will report the matter to the IEC.

“We urge all ANC volunteers and supporters to be vigilant and report any such activities to the authorities,” Nciki said.

He called on all the ANC volunteers to continue to exercise maximum discipline to protect the nature of free and fair elections without any political intolerance.

During the National Pledge signing of the Electoral code of Conduct, IEC chairman Mosotho Moepya said beyond adherence to the code, political parties, independent candidates, and citizens alike must actively promote awareness of the code’s purpose and support efforts to educate voters.

“We know that political violence and intimidation can undermine the integrity of the electoral process and deter citizens from exercising their right to vote,” said Moepya.
