FORMER ANC President Thabo Mbeki expressed his joy after meeting with veterans of the movement.
These included a 98-year-old member of Umkhonto Wesizwe, during his campaign trail in Soshanguve, Tshwane, on Friday, 3 May. He inspired the residents to "vote correctly" and support the ANC, drawing inspiration from the veterans' sacrifices.
"All of them believe that the people of Soshanguve will vote for the ANC. The response has been enthusiastic and supportive. I'm hopeful that they will turn out in large numbers to vote for the ANC, given the numerous challenges we face,” he said.

Addressing the serious issue of drug abuse, Mbeki highlighted the ANC's manifesto, which focuses on crime reduction among other priorities.
"We need to ensure the SAPS is well-equipped, organized, and staffed to tackle this issue effectively. The community must collaborate with the police by sharing information about drug dealers," he urged.
Mbeki remained optimistic that the community would make the right choice. He encouraged everyone in Soshanguve to spread the word about the importance of voting for the ANC on the 29th of May.

Maria Matsimela (52), the daughter of Elizabeth, said she was happy that Mbeki visited them and she believed her mother was happy wherever she was.
"We felt that maybe the ANC had forgotten about us. We’ll continue as ANC members to work hard on the ground, we won’t dump ANC," she said.
Joseph Ndlovu, a community member, appealed to the ANC for employment opportunities.
