EMTEE has taken the South African music scene by storm
and said he plans to give up-and-coming rappers the same chance in the future.
Born Mthembeni Ndevu in Matatiele, Eastern Cape, he made serious
waves with his debut album Ghetto Hero, which was inspired by
Steve Biko.
During a recent interview with Daily Sun, Emtee said
he was planning to feature an undiscovered talent on his label, African Trap
Music.
The rapper, who is currently working on his second album, said he
would soon be launching a new show called Rap 4 Me on DStv’s
GauTV channel.
He said the programme would give young rappers the chance to show
off their skills.
Emtee told the SunTeam: “I always wanted to be a ghetto hero. Rap
in Mzansi has grown so much that a new hit is released every second week by one
of the hip hop giants.
“However, it’s difficult for new rappers to break into mainstream
hip hop. They need to get funds for a demo and then find someone bold enough to
push their product.”
Emtee said he knew what it was like to come from a disadvantaged
area.
Speaking about his upcoming 20-track
album, he said: “It will blow fans’ minds apart. I will be featuring artists from here and overseas.

“We are just putting the finishing touches to it.”
Emtee said he started making money from his music at the tender age
of 17.
Before that, he was the youngest choir conductor ever at Barnato
Park High School and won many provincial competitions with the school’s marimba
band.
