YESTERDAY, award-winning actress Florence Masebe had to say goodbye to her son.

She lost her 18-month-old son, Masakona last Saturday when he drowned in the swimming pool of her home in Bramley, Joburg.

It was an emotional memorial service attended by family, friends and residents at the Bramley Primary School Hall.

Florence’s daughter, Monthati Masebe told the mourners: “I have shared a lot with my brother. He was always smiling and giving my mum hugs.

“He loved playing with mum’s phones. I will miss you, my brother.”

Pastor Lungi Ndala comforted the family with the word of God.

“The Masebe family have lost their beloved one, but God is among those who will comfort them,” said the pastor.

The singer’s family friend Maduvha Madima shared tears on stage after talking of her fond memories with young Masakona.

Among those who attended the service were Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa and businesswoman Basetsana Kumalo.

Actors Diopelo Maphathe, Salamina Mosese and Katlego Danke were also there.

Kodwa told the mourners that the nation has lost a valuable young life.

Masakona will be buried today at the family burial site in
Limpopo.
