PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa has sent a stern warning to those who plan to disrupt the upcoming elections via protest or unrest.

Speaking to the media in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga during the Presidential Imbizo on Thursday, 7 March, Ramaphosa said it should be made clear that those who are threatening the elections with unrest will be dealt with.

“I must make it clear that anyone who is threatening any form of unrest will be arrested. Those are people who belong in jail. Those are people who are the enemies of our democracy,” he said.

He said people of South Africa value this hard-won democracy and don’t want any form of instability.

“When you are dissatisfied with any decision, government decision, president’s decision, minister’s decision even the court’s decision, there are ways in which all those complaints are followed up.

“For anyone to say if this does not happen, they will cause instability, it's against the will of the people of South Africa,” he said.

Ramaphosa further said: "I can promise you this people will be followed up and will be arrested, they do not belong as part of a South Africa that wants stability. That will happen."

The president said this following statements made by uMkhonto Wesizwe Party's (MK) KZN leader, Visvin Reddy, who accused the governing party of doing everything in its power to stop his party from contesting the May elections.

He said there would be no elections on 29 May if the MK was barred from being on the ballot.

Reddy was speaking outside the Durban High Court in KZN on Wednesday, 6 March, after the postponement of the court matter between the ANC and the registration of the MK with the name and logo like that of their military wing, the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA).

He said: "You don’t have the trademark on this MK logo so what gives you the right to claim that MK belongs to you? You have no chance in court, but we are sending a loud and clear message that if these courts, which are sometimes captured, try to stop the MK there will be anarchy in this country.

"There will be riots that have never been seen in this country. No South African will go to the polls if MK is not on the ballot," he said.
