THE official opening of five state-of-the-art police stations in KZN on Friday, 3 May has been warmly received by residents and local community policing groups.
These cop shops aim to improve access to police services in the communities.
The police stations in Gamalakhe, Donnybrook, Melmoth, KwaDabhazi, and Emanguzi were handed over by Police Minister Bheki Cele and the national police commissioner, General Fannie Masemola.
These new facilities are expected to lead to quicker police response times and help the SAPS provide a more professional and effective service, as well as meet the needs of the communities better.
The opening of the Emanguzi cop shop on Friday follows the recent signing of a Joint Action Plan between South Africa and Mozambique. This plan aims to boost policing efforts to fight transnational organised crime.

The opening of Emanguzi Police Station was attended by Mozambique Interior Minister Pascoal Ronda and Cele. Minister Cele urged communities to keep working with the police to eliminate crime.
He highlighted that the station would also serve as a coordination point for South African and Mozambican law enforcement to implement the Joint Action Plan against cross-border crimes.
Cele is confident that the ongoing cooperation between the two countries will effectively tackle transnational crimes and continue to work with regional partners to ensure the stability of the area.
