FAMILY, friends and former colleagues have gathered in Joburg to bid farewell to struggle hero Dr Motsoko Pheko.
Pheko will be laid to rest in a funeral procession at Rosebank Union Church in Sandton this morning 4 May before being taken to a private cemetery at the family's request.
The struggle hero, renowned lawyer, author and historian died on 19 April at the age of 93 after a short illness.
The former leader of the Pan African Congress of Azania (PAC) has been afforded a special provincial burial after Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi made a request to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Pheko was a member of the PAC parliament for a decade, where he served on various departmental committees such as security and foreign affairs.

He also served as the PAC's representative to the United Nations.
At the time of his death, he was known as a renowned lawyer, author of 45 books, theologian, academic and historian.
He was a prolific writer who documented the history of his political party very well, including the events on Robben Island during the apartheid regime.
