POPULAR comedian and DJ, Peter "Mashata" Mabuse was the MC at the slain DJ Sumbody's funeral service.

Little did he know that he, too, would be gunned down in the same manner as his late friend.

Tributes have continued to pour in for Mashata, who was shot and killed in the early hours of Sunday morning, 21 April, in Soshanguve, Tshwane.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, but police have confirmed the fatal incident.

Tributes

Mamelodi Sundowns have released a statement conveying their condolences to the family of Mashata, who was also a stadium announcer at Sundowns' home matches.

"The chairman and the Motsepe family, the board of directors, technical team, players, management, staff, supporters of Mamelodi Sundowns FC, and the entire Yellow Nation, express their deepest condolences to the family and friends as we mourn the loss of the multi-talented Peter ‘Mashata’ Mabuse, who served as an announcer at the Mamelodi Sundowns games.

"We pray that the Almighty comforts and strengthens the Mabuse family, his fans, friends, and colleagues in the entertainment industry. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and everyone that was touched by his talent, entertainment, and laughter. Robala Ka Kgotso [rest in peace] Mashata – The Msindo [noise] Maker,” the statement read.

Newlywed rapper Cassper Nyovest also expressed his sadness, remembering Mashata as a gentle guy.

“Rest in peace Mashata, bra yaka. You were such a gentle, genuine guy. Sad news.”

Metro FM soul and R&B DJ Paul Mtirara urged all soul and R&B DJs to please do a "massive event" for Mashata where everyone would perform for free.

The Life and Times of Peter Mashata

Mashata was best known for his talents in R&B DJing and his captivating content on love through viral videos shared every Sunday.

His passion for music led him to collaborate on the track titled Tsohle Baby alongside Afrotraction, Idols winner Karabo, and Swiss.

Beyond his musical interest, Mashata co-founded Mashata-Tainment, an entertainment company known for managing comedy clubs in Tshwane and organising various entertainment events.

Mashata's death, especially following the recent loss of DJ Sumbody who was gunned down in Woodmead, Joburg, on 20 November 2022, marks a tragic loss in the industry.

Mashata was also a close friend to DJ Sumbody and played the role of the programme director at Sumbody's funeral.

No Arrests

Police spokeswoman Colonel Noxolo Kweza confirmed the incident.

"Tshwane police have opened a case for murder and attempted murder following a shooting involving two men aged 46 and 45 in the early hours of Sunday morning. One victim died in hospital while the other was injured.

"The two victims were traveling near the TUT (Tshwane University of Technology) in Soshanguve when shots were fired at their vehicle," she said.

According to Kweza, the suspects or suspect fled, and police are pursuing several leads.
