THE outspoken former SABC Chief Operating Officer, Hlaudi Motsoeneng has criticised all political parties for spending millions of Rands on election posters.

Motsoeneng believes the money should be invested and later used to buy essentials for marginalised children from impoverished communities as the country is approaching winter.

Motsoeneng was addressing congregants at Charis Missionary Church in Harrismith, Free State on Sunday, 28 April.

"Political parties painted main roads with posters as part of their electioneering. The main purpose is to attract people, including the poor, to vote for them. We are encountering a deteriorating economy with a high rate of unemployment. I'm shocked to see parties spend a lot of money on posters instead of fighting hunger within our disadvantaged communities," he said.

The leader of African Content Movement said the millions of Rands that are spent by parties tell the level of ignorance towards voters who are living in poverty.

"Our pupils don't have food at home. They don't have school shoes. I believe the money was supposed to be invested primarily to help pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in different schools,” he said.

“They should be warm with proper school uniform. After the elections, those posters will be no more. If parties put money to buy shoes and school uniform, people will always remember that they contributed to building the future of the country."

Motsoeneng said he grew up in a village where the majority of residents were marginalised and his conscience doesn't allow him to forget where he came from.

He announced that his party won't even spend a cent on posters.

"People do not eat election posters. They want food, descend jobs, quality education and proper health facilities among others. South Africans won't see me use posters to campaign for elections. I'm the only person who can take Mzansi out of the current distressing situation," said Hlaudi.
