RESIDENTS in the Vaal, who applied for RDP houses since 1996, marched to the Sedibeng District Municipality office on Wednesday 16 April 2024, to hand over their memorandum.
Angry residents claimed they had applied for RDPs many years ago, but only young people qualified.
Titus Moloi (47) from Kanana in Sebokeng, Vaal, told Daily Sun he had been renting for many years before moving into his nephews' home because rent was too high.
"I applied for a house 29 years ago hoping that before I become a pensioner, I'd have my own house but that never happened. Sometimes, I was told I never registered for an RDP, although I have a happy letter for a house that was occupied by someone else," Titus said.
Another protester, Mantoa Tjhabaku (40) told Daily Sun her parents died heartbroken in a rented shack in Evaton.

Mantoa said she doesn't want her children to grow up in a shack. She called on the municipality and the housing department to speed up the allocation of houses to those who had applied a long time ago.
"They must fire corrupt officials who are selling RDPs,” she said.
Sedibeng District Municipality MMC for Human Settlement, Disebo Kgomu ya Sera received the memorandum and assured marchers it would be responded to in seven days' time, following consultation with the Gauteng Housing Department.
