THE Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it won't involve itself in political parties’ internal affairs.

The commission was responding to the letter it received from Jabulani Khumalo of the uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party.

Khumalo wrote to the IEC regarding the removal of Jacob Zuma, the “face of MKP and as the president of the MKP.”

Commission spokeswoman Kate Bapela said: “The commission reiterates its stance that it doesn't involve itself in internal affairs of political parties. Additionally, the commission only acts on instruction of the registered leader of the party.

“In the present case, Mr Jacob Zuma is the registered leader of the MK party. This has been so since 10 April 2024,” she said.

In his letter, Khumalo asserted that the former president made himself the party leader fraudulently.

The uMkhonto Wesizwe Youth League (MKYL) also responded to Khumalo’s letter and said it undeniably and strongly denounces his recent statements.

MKYL spokeswoman Nkateko Mkhabela said most young people have aligned themselves with the MK party because of its leadership under Zuma.

“We continue to do so because President Zuma has made significant strides in improving the lives of disadvantaged and marginalised black people during his tenure as the president of the Republic of South Africa.

“uMkhonto Wesizwe Youth League had no knowledge of Mr Jabulani Khumalo or any contributions he may have made towards the liberation, advancement, or emancipation of the youth and impoverished individuals in our country,” she said.

She added that they outrightly reject Khumalo and any affiliations associated with him, and refuse being led by a fly-by-night individual.

“His attempts to hinder our ongoing revolution won't succeed, regardless of any support he may receive. Mr Khumalo can't challenge the steadfast leadership of our esteemed and gallant president, Jacob Mhlanganyelwa Zuma, nor can he wage a war against the marginalised and patriotic citizens of our nation,” she added.
